Hoima Diocese Department of Education is one of the departments of the Diocese of Hoima that is specifically charged with furthering the education mission of the Catholic Church in the Diocese, and thereof, coordinating the education services and efforts of the Diocese. In the provision of education services, the Diocese of Hoima is one of the biggest stakeholder and key partner with Government. Our vision is “A holistic education inspired by the values of the Gospel”. The contribution of the Diocese to education includes founding of education institutions; participation in education programs implementation; capacity building for educators; networking and advocacy for education. Our geographical area of operation extends to the whole of Bunyoro Sub-region.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant posts within Hoima Diocese Department of Education at Bujumbura, Hoima.

JOB TITLE:                            EDUCATION PROGRAMS COORDINATOR 

No. of Vacancies:                     01 (One) 

Reports to:                               Education Secretary 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  1. To provide overall administrative and specialized program leadership for HODIDE Education programs and systems; including planning, coordination, administrative, and advisory work. Scope of role includes programmatic impact. S/he shall supervise a variety of systems and functions including other professionals.
  2. To Deputize the Education Secretary in the management of HODIDE.
  3. Is responsible for ensuring that all assigned activities and resources are properly coordinated.
  4. Monitors the work of the team to ensure that all requirements and standards are met.
  5. Works with management to ensure the coordination of the team activities with the goals and objectives of the Department.
  6. Serves as an advocate for the team to obtain support for its programs and projects both within the Department and in the broader educational community.
  7. Assists with the development and monitoring of assigned budget.
  8. May be authorized to approve and sign off on reports.
  9. Performs related duties as required. 

Qualification and Working Experience

 Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education, or related field, or a Bachelor’s degree in other fields with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education.

  1. An additional post-graduate qualification in any of the fields of Public Administration, Leadership, Human Resource Management or Business Management, etc; is a must.
  2. Three (3) or more years working experience at a professional level education, program development, program coordination, management or leadership role in an NGO implementing education programs or public or private educational institution.

Required competencies and Skills 

  1. Considerable knowledge of one or more of the educational or technical specialties of the different levels of education.
  2. Considerable knowledge of the field of education in general and awareness of developments and programs in other jurisdictions.
  3. Considerable knowledge and skill in planning, developing, and coordinating programs and initiatives.
  4. Ability to prepare reports of considerable complexity.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  7. Adequate skills in working with a computer are a must.

JOB TITLE:                            EDUCATION COORDINATOR – HIGHER EDUCATION

 Reports to:                               Education Programs Coordinator

 Duties/Responsibilities

 Shall be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of education programs in Secondary and Tertiary Education Institutions of the Diocese of Hoima.

  1. Monitor and support the enforcement of quality education standards in all Catholic and collaborating Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions.
  2. Undertake school monitoring and preparing reports thereof.
  3. Prepare monitoring and evaluation reports.
  4. Conduct teacher staff development programmes in collaboration with other Stakeholders;
  5. Tender technical support and guidance to educational institutions.
  6. Promote collaboration with key stakeholders.
  7. Interpret and disseminate educational policies to stakeholders.
  8. Coordinate the licensing of private education providers.
  9. Coordinate the provision of Diocesan Examinations to Secondary Schools.
  10. Coordinate the activities of the Diocesan Academic Board at the Secondary School level.
  11. Coordinate the activities of ACEI (Association of Catholic Education Institutions) at Secondary and Tertiary School levels.
  12. Mobilize and assist in collecting Diocesan Education Development Fund from all learners in Catholic Secondary Schools every term.
  13. Mobilize and assist in collecting annual contributions to the Diocesan Education Development Fund from all Teachers in Catholic Secondary Schools.

 Qualification and Working Experience 

  1. Should hold an Honors Bachelor’s Degree with Education from a recognized university or institution.
  2. At least three (3) years working experience in the teaching profession and education management as Education officer.

JOB TITLE:   EDUCATION COORDINATOR – ECD (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION)

Reports to:                               Education Programs Coordinator 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  1. Shall be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the ECD education services in the Diocese of Hoima.
  2. Undertake ECD center inspection and preparing reports thereof.
  3. Prepare monitoring and evaluation reports.
  4. Conduct caregiver development programs in collaboration with other Stakeholders.
  5. Tender technical support and guidance to ECD Centers.
  6. Promote collaboration with key stakeholders.
  7. Interpret and disseminate educational and ECD policies to stakeholders.
  8. Coordinate all collaborating ECD Centers in the Diocese.
  9. Coordinate the licensing of ECD Centers.
  10. Coordinate the licensing of Caregivers.
  11. Coordinate and help ECD Centers to access key requirements for proper functioning e.g. learning framework, caregivers’ guide, etc.
  12. Coordinate the preparation of assessment tests for children in all Catholic ECD Centres.
  13. Coordinate the activities of ACEI (Association of Catholic Education Institutions) at ECD level.
  14. Assist in mobilizing and collecting Diocesan Education Development Fund from all children in Catholic ECD Centres, per term.
  15. Assist in mobilizing and collecting annual contributions to the Diocesan Education Development Fund from all Caregivers in Catholic ECD Centres.

Qualification and Working Experience 

  1. Should hold a minimum of an Honors Bachelor’s Degree with Education (specializing in ECD) from a recognized university or institution
  2. At least three (3) years working experience in managing ECD programs at leadership level.

Required competencies and Skills 

  1. Concern for quality and standards.
  2. Ability to meet deadlines amidst very tight schedules.
  3. Communicating effectively.
  4. Computer skills are a must.

JOB TITLE:                            TYPIST 

No. of Vacancies:                     03 (Three) 

Reports to:                               Manager Printing Services 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  1. Shall be responsible for the typing and processing of HODIDE continuous assessment tests for schools in the Diocese, including the Diocesan Mock examinations at all levels of education.
  2. Transfer data from paper formats into digital files or database systems.
  3. Drafting documents, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and other written material.
  4. Reformatting, converting, and merging documents to conform to HODIDE specifications.
  5. Proofreading completed work and correcting spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors (Editing completed work).
  6. Gather and organize typing material.
  7. Create spreadsheets and presentations, combining various data from existing files
  8. Maintain physical and digital filing systems.
  9. Scan and print files, as needed.
  10. Keep information confidential in accordance with security policies.
  11. Ensuring that the office supplies are maintained and informing the supervisor of any issues or requirements.

Qualification and Working Experience 

  1. A minimum qualification of a Diploma in Secretarial Studies from a recognized Higher Institution of learning.
  2. A minimum of three years prior working experience as a typist or data entry clerk is preferable. 

Required competencies and Skills 

  1. Typing speed of 50-80 words per minute.
  2. The ability to type from dictation.
  3. Proficiency in office software such as MS Word, Excel, and Google Docs.
  4. A keen eye for detail and the ability to spot spelling and grammar errors.
  5. Excellent vocabulary and command of the English language.
  6. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Familiarity with paper and digital document filing systems.
  8. Strong time management and organizational skills.
