LAUNCH OF THE GIRL CHILD PROTECTION IN THE FACE OF COVID 19 ON THE 9TH FEBRUARY 2022
Guided by the project title “Protection of the Girl Child in the Face of COVID-19”, several guests in line with Protection of the Girls were invited and attended the launch.
The guests included Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development (Youth and Children Affairs), the Main Chief Guest at the Function. Hon. Namuyangu Kacha Jenipher, State Minister in charge of Bunyoro Affairs, Hon. Grace Mary Mugasa, State Minister for Public Service, and the Mayor of Hoima City, Brian Kaboyo. The function was also attended by the Bishop of the Diocese of Hoima, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo, plus other religious men and women who always play a key role in the protection of the girl child through the spiritual growth of key stakeholders in the protection of the girl child, including guidance and counselling.
In line with the original project guidelines, the launch took a participatory approach of all key stakeholders in the protection of the Girl Child in the face of Covid-19 including children, parents, teachers, among many others.
The following outcomes are expected from the project:
- The community will be sensitized on the need and importance of protecting the Girl child and promoting Girl child education. At least 500,000 stakeholders will be reached using various means of communication.
- Child protection systems in at least 100 schools in the Diocese of Hoima will be strengthened.
- Structures through which Girl Child rights’ abuses are detected, reported and handled will be established.
- Existing government structures for the protection of the Girl Child will be strengthened.
- At least 10,000 girls will be empowered with life skills to overcome possible abuse and handle cases of abuse.
- Psycho-social support will be provided to at least 5,000 victims of abuses.
